Komatsu Dash 8 Excavators Arrive in Ireland

McHale To Showcase Market Leaders at Punchestown Show

McHale Plant Sales, the sole distributors of Komatsu and Kleemann have outlined an exciting line-up of construction and quarry equipment for display at this year’s Construction Plant Show from March 29th to 31st. At the Punchestown exhibit, those in attendance will see a comprehensive range of Komatsu and Kleemann machinery, including Ireland’s market leaders in excavators and rock crushing equipment.

Komatsu, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of construction and plant machinery is enjoying its seventh consecutive year as market leader in Ireland for excavators over 13 tonnes. This is a significant achievement, as it is Ireland’s largest plant machinery category.

Peter Franklin, Business Development Manager at McHale Plant Sales, commented “Komatsu and Kleemann’s overall success in Ireland can be attributed to the company’s philosophy of supplying premium products, backed up by superior service.” He added, “the increasing dominance of Komatsu and Kleemann in Ireland is as a result of their outstanding quality, reliability and residual values.”

Franklin confirmed that McHale Plant Sales will have strong representations for each category at the show, including the tracked excavator models; PC130-7, PC210-8, PC600-8 and the zero tail swing PC228-3. An extensive range within the mini and midi ranges will be also available for inspection.

McHale will also showcase the Komatsu HM400-2 articulated dump truck due to the buoyancy in demand for the category, in which case Komatsu has been particularly successful. Franklin confirms, “since their relatively recent introduction, consensus is that Komatsu articulated dump trucks have been extremely well accepted by all clients throughout the country, who are very satisfied with the high rates of productivity, robustness and fuel efficiency”.

Komatsu dozers, by far the most dominant force in the Irish market will also feature at the show. When it came to choice in Ireland in 2006, Komatsu accounted for over three out of every four bulldozers sold. Similar to the entire range of dozers offered by Komatsu, the latest Komatsu D155AX-6 and D65PX-15 crawler dozers which incorporate a number of innovative design and performance enhancements will be on show.

Other Komatsu models featuring at the event include the new WA470-6 wheel loader, the SK714 skid steer, WH714 telescopic handler and the WB93-5 back hoe loader.

For the first time, Kleemann crushers and screeners will also feature at the show. Kleemann’s manufacturing program comprises the whole range of mobile and stationery processing machines for natural stone, rubble, mixed building site waste and slag. The brand has now established a 60% market share in Ireland for large class mobile quarry crushing plant.

The New Komatsu D155AX-6
KOMATSU DOZER IS KING
For many years, Komatsu worldwide has built up a reputation as robust and reliable as its range of machines. This is nowhere more evident than in Ireland, where Komatsu is Ireland’s leading brand when it comes to consumer demand of new excavators and bulldozers.
When it came to choice in Ireland during 2006, Komatsu accounted for over three out of every four bulldozers sold in the Republic of Ireland. Similar to the entire range of dozers offered by Komatsu, the latest Komatsu D155AX-6 crawler dozer incorporates a number of innovative design and performance enhancements. A new blade concept and ripper design, powertrain improvements and the move to a K-bogie undercarriage combine to deliver a unique dozer with exceptional features. As a result the D155AX-6 dozer offers overall efficiency gains, delivering fuel and productivity benefits to all applications from dozing and grading right through to ripping.
Engine
Powertrain enhancements on the D155AX-6 are key to the overall performance improvement. The new dozer is powered by the 320 hp / 1900 rpm SAA6D140E engine, which incorporates advanced High Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) injection and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems. As part of Komatsu’s ECOT3 family, the engine is fully compliant with EU Stage IIIA emissions regulations.
Transmission
An automatic transmission with a fully automated lock-up torque converter ensures the D155AX-6 delivers the right balance between drive and torque at all times. Constant monitoring of torque requirements lets the system either engage the torque converter when most torque is needed or automatically lock-up the torque converter and supply 100% direct drive, particularly useful during less demanding working conditions.
Productivity
An obvious and important change is the new Sigma Dozer® blade, which will have an impact on all existing blade designs. Operating like a V-shape bucket for the best penetration, the Sigma Dozer® blade also provides a perfect flat edge for grading performance. The convex figure of this blade concept delivers a much higher blade fill factor and provides an increased capacity of 9.4 m3. Rolling characteristics have also been improved, with the blade’s lateral edges helping to push the rolling material continuously towards the centre. Compared to a normal Semi U blade, the result is a 15% increase in dozing productivity.
Fuel Consumption
Combining the benefits of the fully automated lock-up torque converter with the continuous power transfer of the automatic transmission reduces fuel consumption by up to 10%. The enhanced powertrain also improves operator comfort by smoothly applying power and reducing cabin noise levels.
Undercarriage
Adding to the durability of the D155AX-6 is the switch to the proven K-bogie undercarriage system, as used on large Komatsu dozers. Komatsu’s K-bogie design ensures track rollers are always in contact with track links, helping reduce the impact load on undercarriage components. With this undercarriage a D155AX-6 delivers 18% more track length in contact with the ground compared to the D155AX-5. The K-bogie system and longer contact length mean higher operating stability, longer component life and more powerful traction transfer as well as greater ride comfort through reduced vibration and shock on rough terrain. K-bogie undercarriage systems have also demonstrated improved grading performance.
Ripper
Another obvious change is the ripper. The D155AX-6 continues to use Komatsu’s patented ripping system however the actual design is significantly different. By reducing the number of hydraulic cylinders to two single cylinders, the new design offers improved ripping visibility without losing any ripper penetration or pry-out force. In addition, the ripper point movement has been significantly increased, simplifying the task of digging out large boulders.
Cab Design
The D155AX-6 also features a new cab design with integrated Falling Object Protection Structure (FOPS) and Roll-Over Protection Structure (ROPS) for outstanding safety and visibility levels. It offers unbeatable operator comfort with a fully adjustable suspension seat and joysticks plus an ultra-quiet operating noise level of just 78 dB at the driver’s ear. Additionally, a large, multi-lingual LCD monitor provides the driver with easy access to a wealth of operating information.
