19-6-2014 - NEW KOMATSU D37-23 IS SECOND DOZER WITH FACTORY-FITTED INTELLIGENT CONTROL SYSTEM

Komatsu has extended availability of their intelligent machine control system to a second dozer with the launch in Europe of the new D37-23 crawler dozer - smaller brother to the D61-23 launched last year.

Sold here by Komatsu distributor in Ireland, McHale Plant Sales of Birdhill, the new D37-23 with factory-fitted intelligent control system enables the dozer to perform rough dozing and finish grading functions, all in fully automatic mode, unlike conventional add-on mechanisms.

During rough dozing, the system monitors blade load and adjusts blade elevation accordingly. Track slip is kept to a minimum in order to deliver more high efficiency dozing.  As work progresses, the system adjusts to provide finish grade performance with high-level precision.

In contrast to the add-on system used on the outgoing model, the new D37-23 has a factory-installed cab-top global navigation satellite receiver, control box and antenna and an enhanced inertial measuring unit with stroke sensing hydraulic cylinders that work together to enhance productivity, reduce costs and improve job site safety.

Robust and accurate, the integrated sensor package eliminates the daily hassle involved in installing and removing a conventional GNSS set-up, not to mention the wear associated with it. For reasons of safety and efficiency, antenna, mast pole and cables are now fully integrated in the machine. Positioned on top of the cab, the antenna provides accurate data collection, regardless of the blade position.

In operation, the system works by tailoring the machine’s responses to actual operations – constantly adjusting blade load settings to match actual work conditions. Moving around the site, surface data is collected by measuring elevations while the stroke-sensing cylinder measures blade angle for high precision grading accuracy.

From pass to pass, blade control can be left engaged to automate the precise lifting and lowering of the blade at the beginning and finish of each pass.

Noting that it is the second dozer in their product portfolio to feature intelligent machine control, McHale Plant Sales managing director, Michael McHale said “the introduction of the D37-23 is a further indication of Komatsu’s determination to equip their machines with leading edge technology that delivers a more efficient and economical dozing solution.”

“Choice of options includes longer track-on-ground and low ground pressure models that offer customers flotation and weight distribution options to best match applications” he said.

Operating weights range from 8,640 kg to 8,940 kg, depending on the configuration, with a net power output of 66,1 kW / 89HP at 2,200rpm. Cab enhancements include a decreased decibel level to 77dB, more comfortable standard air ride seat with heating, large 7” high-resolution LCD colour monitor, large glass for better visibility, internal cab air pressure and air filters to minimise dust, and cab damper to suppress noise and vibration when travelling over rough terrain. The machine is also equipped with Komatsu’s own KOMTRAX technology that uses wireless technology that monitors the machine remotely, protects against theft, records operating hours, fuel consumption and provides maintenance alerts.

For the first three years or 2,000 hours, the D37-23 will be supported by Komatsu’s CARE factory-scheduled maintenance program.
