2-11-12 - NEW GREENER HYBRID EXCAVATOR LAUNCHED
A new hybrid excavator, claimed to be the ‘greenest’ machine of its kind, has been launched on the Irish market by Tipperary-based McHale Plant Sales of Birdhill.
Made by the Japanese manufacturer Komatsu, it is designed to operate in sensitive environmental applications. Quieter, it emits less noise than conventional excavators making it suited for work in urban surroundings, confined spaces or city streets. Other beneficial features include average fuel savings of 25 percent and a corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions that makes it suitable for handling sensitive environmental projects such as river and canal dredging.
Diesel powered, it has an electric motor that captures surplus energy generated during each swing operation that is then stored and used to boost engine performance when extra acceleration is needed.
