Komatsu’s new HB215LC-1 Hybrid excavator - of which four units have already been sold in Ireland - has been included on the Triple E list of energy-efficient equipment maintained by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) on which customers can claim accelerated capital tax allowances.

Under the scheme, which runs until 31 December 2014, the entire allowance in respect of approved energy-efficient equipment can be claimed in the first year.  This contrasts with the situation applying to conventional equipment whereby capital allowances for wear and tear are spread out over an eight-year period.

As an eligible product which is included on the Triple E register, Komatsu HB215LC-1 hybrid owners can claim relief on their corporation tax return along with any other wear and tear allowances without the need to obtain approval for expenditure on energy-efficient equipment.
While advising customers to seek independent taxation advice, Liam Foley, Finance Director with Komatsu distributor McHale Plant Sales of Birdhill said that further information can be obtained by viewing the approved listing of Electric and Alternative Fuel Vehicles on the SEAI website and by checking the Accelerated Capital Allowances section on the Revenue website
