GROWING IMPORTANCE OF WASTE SECTOR IN EVIDENCE AT IFAT

The record crowds present at the recent IFAT waste and recycling exhibition in Munich proved once again the importance now being given to waste processing, recovery and recycling, by machinery manufacturers and distributors alike.

A high-profile contingent from Ireland attended the event, including a delegation from McHale Plant Sales headed by their General Manager for New & Used Equipment, Denis McGrath.

Just last year, the Birdhill and Rathcoole-based company was appointed distributors in Ireland, north and south, for the Terex Ecotec range of environmental and waste recovery equipment. They had gone to IFAT to see what McGrath described as ‘the best selling models and latest product innovations’ from this global leader in waste processing.

Of particular interest to them was the new TBG 630 high-speed shredder shown to the public for the first time at IFAT. Powered by a 661HP V8 Scania engine, the TBG 630 has the capacity to process green waste at over 120 tonnes per hour. Described by McGrath to be ‘top of the food chain’ in high-speed shredders, it has an open-fronted feeder, a swinging hammer rotor, and a sizing screen that can be customised to ensure that the specification of the end material meets requirements. Other features include an ‘intelligent’ screen opening system to facilitate fast discharge of metal contaminants to reduce the risk of accidental damage.

Designed to give operators unrivalled production rates whilst being easy to maintain with maintenance catwalks offering unrestricted access to both sides of the engine in order to simplify servicing. The conveyor discharge height of 5.1m is said by Terex to be ‘industry leading’ and is designed to maximise stockpile capacity and allow loader operators to easily remove processed material.

Other units displayed on the Terex Ecotec stand included their popular TDS 820 slow speed shredder and a TTS620 Trommel waste separator - a unit described by Denis McGrath as the ‘ultimate in modern’.

In its complete form, the Terex Ecotec range consists of high, medium and slow-speed shredders, trommel waste separator screens, grading screens, waste handlers and wood chippers – all designed to convert all types of waste material for which a valuable alternative use exists.
