NEW KOMATSU D65EXi/PXi-18 DOZER WITH INTELLIGENT MACHINE CONTROL UNVEILED

Komatsu has extended the range of products fitted with its intelligent machine control system with the launch of the new D65EXi/PXi-18 crawler dozer – a machine based on the recently introduced D65-18.

Bringing intelligent machine control to a new class of bulldozer, the D65EXi/PXi-18 is described by Komatsu’s distributor in Ireland, Michael McHale of McHale Plant Sales, Birdhill, as ‘a machine built to deliver an outstanding improvement in productivity’. Complete with its fully automatic blade control, the new dozer can perform both rough dozing and finish grading in auto mode.

With first versions now available in Ireland, the D65EXi/PXi-18 is powered by Komatsu’s own EU Stage IV 162 kW (217 HP) SAA6D114E-6 engine and has operating weights ranging between 20,500kg and 24,900kg, depending on machine configuration.

Available in both a standard model (EX) fitted with a Sigmadozer blade and a low ground pressure model (PX) with a straight tilt or INPAT blade, the D65EXi/PXi-18 features flotation and weight distribution options to allow operators to calibrate the dozer to best match their application at any given time.

Integrated sensors package

Replacing the add-on components for the machine control system that were previously mounted on the blade, the D65EXi/PXi-18 is equipped with a factory-installed cab top GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) antenna, stroke sensing hydraulic cylinders and an enhanced inertial measuring unit (IMU+). The integrated sensors package eliminates the daily hassles of setting up and removing GNSS antennas and cables from the blade.

Fully automatic blade control for rough dozing

When rough dozing in automatic mode, the blade load is automatically monitored and blade elevation adjusted for high-efficiency dozing with minimal track slip. As work progresses, the automatic blade control makes further adjustments to provide finish grade performance with high-level precision. Komatsu claims this technological innovation represents a significant increase in efficiency compared to conventional add-on machine control systems.

Optimised performance

Designed to optimise performance from inside the cab, the intelligent Machine Control system can be set from pass to pass with the automatic blade control engaged thanks to its ability to precisely automate the lowering of the blade at the start of a pass and raise it at the end.

Further technical enhancements allow the cab top GNSS antenna to collect accurate surface data by measuring actual elevations, while the stroke sensing angle cylinder measures the angle of the blade for high precision grading accuracy on cross-slope.

KOMTRAX and Komatsu CARE

Like other Komatsu EU Stage IV machines, the D65EXi/PXi-18 will be supported by Komatsu CARE maintenance program for the first three years or 2,000 hours.

The machine is also equipped with Komatsu’s own KOMTRAX technology that uses wireless technology that monitors it remotely to protect against theft, record operating hours and fuel consumption and provide maintenance alerts.
