SCHULL CONTRACTOR EXPANDS EXCAVATOR FLEET
Signs that West Cork has begun to benefit from an upswing in construction activity may be seen in a move by Schull-based contractor Whelton Plant Hire Ltd to expand its excavator fleet.
With their purchase of a new Japanese-built Komatsu PC138US-10 excavator, the specialist stone works contractor has raised its total excavator fleet to six units, which includes one additional Komatsu unit. Designed with a zero tail swing for working in confined spaces, this latest addition to the Whelton fleet was supplied with rock breaking and wood mulching attachments.
Established in 1975, Whelton Plant Hire is geared to service projects within a 50 miles radius of its Gortnamona headquarters, near Schull. Founded to supply quarry materials initially, the family-run firm has since expanded its range of services to domestic and commercial projects across the West Cork region. Much of this involves civil works, land drainage, piers, slipways, landscaping, lawn renovations and horse riding arenas.
